How to Use Digital Notebooks
Here’s everything you need to know about using your new digital notebooks! If you haven’t downloaded and imported your purchased files yet, be sure to start at the setup instructions here!
Every Paper July notebook is hyperlinked for easy navigation. For how to use hyperlinks, please see Paper July’s GoodNotes instructions and Notability instructions.
To reach the contents page, tap the three lines in the top-right corner of the notebook. To reach the main templates page, tap the plus icon just below the three lines. The remaining tabs link to each of the notebook’s sections.
Whenever you click on any of the notebook’s hyperlinked tabs, you’ll be taken to that section’s front page, which serves as a section divider. All of these divider pages start with no notebook pages between them. To create your notebook, you’ll add pages as follows:
1. Copy any page in the notebook.
2. To add the page to a section, paste a copy of the page after the section divider.
3. Repeat this process, and then you can flip through each section like a section in a physical notebook!
How you copy and paste pages depends on what app you’re using. Please see these GoodNotes instructions and Notability instructions for how to use the templates in these two apps!
To use an iOS-integrated notebook, you’ll first need to install Paper July’s iOS shortcut. Please see the instructions here for how to download and install the shortcut.
The only difference between integrated and non-integrated notebooks is that the integrated notebooks have a menu bar with iOS-linked buttons. Here’s what every button does, from left to right:
1. Open the iOS Calendar app or Google Calendar app, depending on which notebook integration you chose.
2. Open the iOS Notes app.
3. Open the iOS Reminders app.
4. Open the iOS Weather app, if you have this app installed on your iPad.
5. Open a menu where you can set a timer or add a new calendar event, note, or reminder. Please note: To set a location-based reminder, you’ll need to enable Location Services for the Reminders app.
Each notebook contains all its templates inside it. This is because a page’s hyperlinks only work when that page is pasted into the same document, unfortunately! Once a hyperlinked PDF page is pasted into a different document, the hyperlinks stop working.
If the notebook contains templates that you know you won’t use, you can either leave them inside the notebook or delete them. Due to their very small file size, deleting them likely won’t save much storage space! If you’d still like to delete them, you can follow these GoodNotes instructions or Notability instructions.
To start a new notebook, simply re-import the notebook from your device’s files into GoodNotes, Notability, or whatever app you’re using. The app will create an entirely new copy of the original notebook! Please refer to the setup instructions for how to import notebooks.
This product comes with stickers formatted as PNG images. To use them, please follow your app’s instructions for adding images, as every app differs. You can also check out Paper July’s sticker instructions for GoodNotes and Notability!
Many note-taking apps, such as GoodNotes and Notability, have a home page where you can view all your documents. In these apps, you can change a document’s display thumbnail by changing the first page of that document. Please see these GoodNotes instructions or Notability instructions for how to use the included covers in these two apps!
