How to Use Digital Notebooks

Here’s everything you need to know about using your new digital notebooks! If you haven’t downloaded and imported your purchased files yet, be sure to start at the setup instructions here!

How to navigate

Every Paper July notebook is hyperlinked for easy navigation. For how to use hyperlinks, please see Paper July’s GoodNotes instructions and Notability instructions.

To reach the contents page, tap the three lines in the top-right corner of the notebook. To reach the main templates page, tap the plus icon just below the three lines. The remaining tabs link to each of the notebook’s sections.

How to add pages to a notebook using the templates

Whenever you click on any of the notebook’s hyperlinked tabs, you’ll be taken to that section’s front page, which serves as a section divider. All of these divider pages start with no notebook pages between them. To create your notebook, you’ll add pages as follows:

1. Copy any page in the notebook.
2. To add the page to a section, paste a copy of the page after the section divider.
3. Repeat this process, and then you can flip through each section like a section in a physical notebook!

How you copy and paste pages depends on what app you’re using. Please see these GoodNotes instructions and Notability instructions for how to use the templates in these two apps!

How to use the iOS integration (iOS-integrated notebooks only)

To use an iOS-integrated notebook, you’ll first need to download Paper July’s iOS shortcut. Please see the setup instructions for how to download and install the shortcut.

To use the iOS integration, tap the star-shaped button in the notebook’s first tab, directly below the templates button. This button will open a menu with the following options:

1. Open the iOS Calendar app or Google Calendar app, depending on which notebook integration you chose.
2. Open the iOS Notes app.
3. Open the iOS Reminders app.
4. Open the weather app you selected during the shortcut setup.
5. Open a menu with more options:
a. Add a new calendar event.
b. Add a new note.
c-d. Add a new reminder, with or without alert. Please note: To set a location-based reminder, you’ll need to enable Location Services for the Reminders app.
e. Set a timer in the iOS Clock app.

What to do with templates you aren’t going to use (you don’t need to do anything!)

Each notebook contains all its templates inside it. This is because a page’s hyperlinks only work when that page is pasted into the same document, unfortunately! Once a hyperlinked PDF page is pasted into a different document, the hyperlinks stop working.

If the notebook contains templates that you know you won’t use, you can either leave them inside the notebook or delete them. Due to their very small file size, deleting them likely won’t save much storage space! If you’d still like to delete them, you can follow these GoodNotes instructions or Notability instructions.

How to create multiple copies of the same notebook

To start a new notebook, simply re-import the notebook from your device’s files into GoodNotes, Notability, or whatever app you’re using. The app will create an entirely new copy of the original notebook! Please refer to the setup instructions for how to import notebooks.

How to use the included stickers

This product comes with stickers formatted as a GoodNotes sticker book and as PNG images. You can find instructions for using the sticker book here. To use the PNG stickers, please follow your app’s instructions for adding images, as every app differs. You can also check out Paper July’s instructions for GoodNotes and Notability!

How to use the included covers

Many note-taking apps, such as GoodNotes and Notability, have a home page where you can view all your documents. In these apps, you can change a document’s display thumbnail by changing the first page of that document. Please see these GoodNotes instructions or Notability instructions for how to use the included covers in these two apps!
